Overlocking effect

My 7444 came with overlock features - which mean, if you do not own any Serger you can simply sew edging using the overlock stitches.

My verdict: the stitches look neat and durable but it takes time to sew, I prefer using the real edging machine.

What's accompany you?

Being a FTWM, I'm only manage to be with my precious 7444 at night after my baby and MrHubby has gone to the lalaland. Sewing alone in the middle of night sometimes can be very boring and creepy. So, the only things that keep me awake is:

Yes, my phone cum ipod walkman.
Love this gadget to bits. The only things that remind me that’s I’ve been up the whole night is that I’ve been listening to the same song more that twice. Heheheh..

Twin needle experience

I was so eager to try the twin needle application that comes with my 7444 when I read Katie's review.

My experience using the twin needle was as same as Katie, which the twin needle’s stitches gift a very neat finish just like the t-shirt sleeves.

Well, besides straight line, the other kind of stitches also can be sewn using twin needle.

So, why don’t you try? The twin needle can be bought at Singer shop for RM7 per piece.

My favorite Sewing store

Located in Bangi. There’s two:

One in Kompleks PKNS: Nouri Enterprise

A very small outlet but don’t under-estimated. Even tho it looks small compare to your store room, it’s well-equip will all the essential sewing stuffs. I really like this store (very very much) – harga pun murah.

Another one in Kompleks Warta, Level 2: Perniagaan Sin Bee Jaya.

This shop actually sells barangan orang kahwin but still have those fundamental stuffs for sewing.

My sewing stationeries

Well, when I sew, I love to have a complete sewing equiptments.

These are part of my sewing utensil:

Scissors and cutter– I have 3 but only use 1: the red one is my favorite. The black one has been use to cut paper (sewing patterns) hence no longer suitable to cut fabric. The green one is useless – found out that the blade was blunt from the day it was bought.

Measure – Same as other sewist, I use measurement tape and rulers.

Markers – I have 4 different types of marker: the water-washable pen, 2 colors pencil, chalks, and carbon papers. I love the chalks very much compare to others.

Magic box – what contains in this magic box is everything that essential for sewing purposes. It contains threads (of different colors), bobbins, elastic threads, piping tapes, waist tapes, ribbons, beads and spangles, needles, spare machine needles, and buttons.

Weekend project

Since Aidilfitri is just around the corner, one of my raya projects, beside making baju kurung(s) for me and my daughter, I've made the new curtains. Ngee..

Actually sewing curtains is not that hard (especially for the normal type of curtains), however since we're nor using the hook type curtains but the button curtains, so it took the whole weekend for me to sew it. However, Im very glad with the new machine as it can automatically sewn the buttons and the buttonholes (jimat masa saya).. heheheh.

So, this is the outcome:

And YES, I am indeed very satisfied with what I've sewn. :-)

Pin cushion

This is the old one: Full, overload, light- sekali bersin boleh terbalik.

This is the new one: Can put all of the pin needles, I need tons of pins while sewing: amatur la katakan.. heheheh

There's one in the Anna Maria Horner's book - pin cushion caddy - comel but looks quite complicated. In need for a new pin cushion, I googled. And I bumped into this link. Best, way easy, done it within 15 minutes. Dan bestnya, sebab base adalah pasu (bunga telur orang kawin), jadi tak de la incident tergolek.. hehehe

The dressform

or also known as the mannequin.

I take this hobby seriously, so I was so tempted to equip my work station with all the sewing stuffs.

Before I decided to buy, I’ve been calling most of the mannequin shops in Kuala Lumpur and Penang asking for the quotation of the dress form mannequin. The cheapest I can get was RM300, which is quite expensive for a cheapskate person like me. Suddenly I stumbled upon this website: and they’re selling the exact mannequin at much much cheaper price. So, without hesitate, I bought one. They have 2 different sizes for women dressform - M and L, and since I wanted to sew my own cloth, I opted for the L size.

Waiting list

I need to change this raw textiles to become baju kurung. 6 pairs in a row.

Transformation

of the baju kurung neck - leher baju kurung.

I've started learning to sew baju kurung when I bought the Classic Singer. Learn by seeing, is all I can say. Basically, the whole baju was very easy to sew but when it comes to the neck, I have to admit that I really had a tough time to figure out on how to sew it.

Let me show you the baju kurung neck that I've sewn.

Horrible, isn't it. But since I'm wearing hijab, I dont mind wearing the baju kurung as nobody will see the ugly neck. In fact, I'm kinda proud to myself wearing my own made baju kurung.

After I got the new machine, I resolute to learn to sew baju kurung and very much wanted it looks presentable. So, I learnt hard to sew the neck.

Habis semua kain perca dijadikan kain untuk menjahit tengkuk.

And finally,

And of course, with very much help from this book:

The new machine

Singer 7444 Precision.

I win this machine over bidding in eBay. Price was usd70 + shipping usd130. Kinda cheap kan (compare if we buy locally). However, when reaching Malaysia I have to add another rm200 for tax payment. Mesin ni sebenarnya spesifikasi untuk kegunaan di State (current yang a bit low compare to in Malaysia) as kalo for Malaysian usage there is another different machine – 7465 Confidents. Thus to suit with Malaysia current flow, I have to use the stepdown transformer which I got from the local shop for about RM50. So, all in all, I have to pay like 1k for the machine.

The Transformer: Revenge of the Fallen

This is an electronic machine that can sew up to 50 different stitches, automatic sewing for button and sewn quietly (if compared to the previous machine).

This machine is totally awesome. I pray that she'll be my ever lasting best friend. :-)

How to make cloth diaper

Today, I would like to show you an easy ten steps on making cloth diaper.

1. Draft the pattern on a piece a paper.2. Put it on double folded flannel fabric. Cut the fabric based on the pattern paper.

3. Sew the soaker on the back of the flannel fabric. You can make soaker by using old or used towel. 4. Sew the velcro on the front of the flannel fabric.
5. Put the flannel fabric on the outer layer. You can use any kind of fabric to make it as outer layer. Here I use 'kain baldu'. Cut the outer layer based on the shape of the flannel fabric. Then sew the velcro.

6. Sew the outer layer fabric with plastic cover (the kind of plastic cover use by mother old days to ikat-ikat the lampin kain). By using this plastic cover, your CD is actually the waterproof type of CD. Omitting the plastic cover, you'll made fitted CD which have to be wear with the diaper cover.
7. Sew the outer layer with the flannel fabric in terbalik version. Left the front part unsew. In terbalik version, you sew the 'getah' at three parts.
8. After that, terbalik kan the whole thing.

9. Then sew on the lining to keep it tide.

10. Voila, you have made your own cloth diaper. Congratulation :-)

Easy kan? Selamat mencuba..
